breathing space: exploring outdoors, exploring within

About Us

Breathing Space was established in 2000 by Fran Loots, then incorporated into Loots Limited - a company limited by guarantee in 2003. Loots Limited was chosen as the company name as too many other 'Breathing Spaces' had appeared since first trading with this name - though the trading name continued to be used! Not too many Loots' about though. Breathing Space Outdoors was coined in 2005 to reflect the focus on the outdoors. The company was delimited in 2010 to reflect the reality that limited company status brings little benefit to small companies in a recession. Breathing Space Outdoors continues to be the trading name.

How we work

Breathing Space Outdoors believes that by taking time out, particularly in the natural environment, it is possible to re-energise and focus, thus returning to our lives able to see the wood and the trees! This can be through training using the outdoors as a medium to explore various issues or through outdoor experiences.

Breathing Space Outdoors believes that the natural environment can and should be accessible to everyone. We are committed to inclusive practice. Every attempt will be made to ensure accomodation is accessible. Training and outdoor experiences can be tailored to meet the needs of individuals and groups with disabilities.

We aim to promote respect between participants and ourselves in any venture, and aim to create a safe environment in which to take on challenges.

In recognition of the connection between mind, body and spirit, we now offer coaching and hypnosis to give you breathing space 'inside'.

Responsible tourism

Tourism today is the largest industry in the world. In Scotland it is also a major source of employment but in many cases services are delivered at the expense of poor rates of pay. We are commited to ensuring that we pay ourselves and those who provide us with services a fair rate and that we contribute to the local economy in a positive way.

We aim to take nothing but photos and leave nothing but footprints - treading lightly where we go.

Walking that starts from Comrie rarely involves using a car.

Participants are encouraged to share transport when they can in getting here.
